On the last day of my business trip to Beijing, I spent my free morning at The Summer Palace. Hopped on the metro, and got there right on the dot at 9am when the gates open. Meant to be a luxurious garden to the royal family, the landscaping and architecture were gorgeous. The compound spans a huge area too. I covered perhaps less than half the compound, went around in sneakers, and was exhausted in a few hours. It's no wonder that ladies of the past who could only wear heels were carried around. Lots of walking and climbing
Random photos from Beijing ... 1 year back. I really need to stop throwing photos to one side. Colleague brought me to feast on Peking Duck (which wasn't pictured) after Day 1 of training. She ordered a whole range of Beijing delicacies for me to try - from blood sausages, to pig organ soup (which is much starchier than the one found in Singapore), to desserts. That Jujube juice in the photo is the best juice I've ever had in my life, and sadly I haven't been able to find it anywhere else ):
Very fortunate to have been invited to take some shots during the Gala Night, when they were giving out awards. It was great fun, though it was such a pain to be without a flash unit. Boo Junfeng, presenter for an award which I don't remember anymore. Simon Yam! A horde descended upon him for photographs the moment he arrived.
Last October, I volunteered to photograph for the SGIFF (because, bored and restless soul).
This set was from the Estonian Animation 1970s - 1990s session, and I very luckily got to watch the short films that they were screening. Made during the post-independence era, these animated shorts were dark, and definitely not for children. http://sgiff.com/browse-all-films/cinema-today-estonian-animated-shorts-1970s-to-1990s/ Unfortunately, without flash, this two photos were the only usable ones. One early Saturday morning, the sunrise was soft and cool, and my body was up and raring to go (a rare thing indeed, but I was grateful to be awake at the crack of dawn that day).
I've been feeling very uninspired lately. Yesterday, midway through conversation with a friend, I realized that I was disinterested in everything - disinterested in sleeping, in awaking, in starting on a new television series, in reading, in editting photos. I'm marginally more interested today, but just marginally really.
- Some photos from the trip to Rochor Estate. My months-old archive of photos from then still remains untouched. |
